Reminder to check wayleave payments

Landowners are being reminded to check they are receiving the correct wayleave payments following new rates for electricity aparatus.

“An electricity company with apparatus on your land should automatically increase the wayleave payment to you on an annual basis, said Alice Mesney, surveyor in Strutt & Parker’s Stamford office, Lincolnshire.

But this does not always happen so those affected should check they are receiving the correct payment. Owners and occupiers who have electricity apparatus on their land should be paid – they should investigate if this is not the case. The previous owner may still be being paid.”

Landowners should contact the local wayleave officer at their local Distribution Network Operator to check they were being paid – and that they were receiving the correct amount, said Ms Mesney.

New payment rates for electricity apparatus have been published by the Energy Networks Association. Details of payments and who to contact for more information can be found on the Energy Networks website at www.energynetworks.org.
