Farmers considering growing miscanthus as an energy crop are invited to a farm walk in Louth, Lincolnshire.

Due to take place on 23 May, the walk is being hosted by arable farmer Peter Strawson, who grows 34ha of miscanthus on outlying land for Terravesta. Mr Strawson has just seen the first of what he hopes will be many miscanthus harvests.

“The agricultural sector is hopelessly uncertain – as always – and with miscanthus you have some most welcome long-term assurance,” he says. “Generally miscanthus takes care of itself after its establishment and you don’t have to supervise or cultivate it.

“You don’t need sophisticated machinery to harvest it and local contractors are experienced with the crop, working closely with Terravesta and taking care of the harvest completely”.
