A Shropshire business fended off competition from across the Midlands to be named farm shop small retailer of the year in the 2019 Farm Shop & Deli Awards.

Battlefield 1403, which is part of the Albrighton Estate, Shrewsbury, picked up the accolade at the Farm Shop & Deli Show, at the NEC. More than 30,000 people and 17,000 exhibition stands attended the three-day event in April.

NFU members the Jagger family and their team were named regional winners for their farm shop, butchery and café at the event. Almost 5,500 consumers voted in the competition, which led to 12 category winners and nine regional winners.

Jeremy Jagger, of Battlefield 1403, said: “The show always attracts a good attendance as it is known nationally as the place to be to learn and discover everything there is about the farm shop and deli industry.”

He added: “The competition was very strong in all of the categories with some wonderful businesses the length and breadth of the UK making the wins all the more thrilling. Shropshire and Midlands based businesses did very well in the awards.”
