Judges have been announced for the Dairy Shorthorn, Guernsey and Jersey classes at this autumn’s UK Dairy Day event.

Three judges will be casting their professional eyes over breeds during the 6th annual event on 11 September at the International Centre in Telford, Shropshire. They are Seimon Thomas (Dairy Shorthorns), Colin Gleed (Guernseys) and Matt Pye (Jerseys).

Chief steward Lynden Bustard said this year’s show promised to be even better than last year. “The cattle show presents an excellent opportunity for breeders to show their cattle in a competitive environment under the professional eye of an excellent judging panel.”

Mr Thomas milks 700 shorthorns in West Wales on the family farm with his wife Eleanor and two children, Sion and Hanna. He is currently president of the Dairy Shorthorn Society and the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society for 2019.

Mr Glees is a former President of the English Guernsey Cattle Society. On the society’s judging panel since 1993, he has judged over 60 shows over the past 26 years. He works in processing and milk distribution for Beechgroves Field, Buckinghamshire.

Mr Pye farms in a family partnership in the Lune Valley, Lancashire. They currently milk 300 pedigree Jersey’s, under the Bayview prefix, along with 250 youngstock. He is a regular competitor with Bayview Jerseys at the Westmorland County Show.

In his judging career, Mr Pye has enjoyed judging several UK herd competitions, alongside a variety of agricultural shows including the Royal Norfolk, Royal Bath & West and many regional shows too.

Spectacular display

Like previous years, the cattle show will offer visitors and the dairy industry a spectacular display of show cattle competing for a prize fund of over £25,000.  Heifer classes will take place in the morning following by all senior classes in the afternoon.

The Interbreed Pair heifer championship will be presented at lunchtime. It will be followed by the Interbreed Pair Senior Championship presentation in late afternoon. The show will close with the Overall Interbreed Dairy Pairs.

The cattle infrastructure sponsor for the second year is NWF Agriculture, supporting free entry for cattle exhibitors.

The stall booking deadline is Friday 2 August and the cattle entry deadline is Friday 30 August 2019.
